The Baton Rouge based business began
in the spring of 1980 when the first President of the
company, Robert E. "Bob" Kelly, founded it.
Bob's son-in-law, Douglas A. "Doug" Hillensbeck
joined the company as Vice-President in May of 1980
after graduating with a degree in business-finance from
Florida State University in Tallahassee.
Bob Kelly had worked for approximately
twenty-five years at various management positions and
finally as a District Manager for a national firm, Redd
Pest Control. With Bob's knowledge of pest and termite
control and Doug's schooling, the business took off
and flourished. Bob and Doug were primarily handling
pest and termite services for customers in the field,
and Bob's wife, Bobby, was office manager and in charge
of customer relations, bookkeeping and required state
reporting. Doug's wife, Wanda, on occasion, also helped
out with office duties.
Bob and Bobby retired at the end of
December 1996 and Doug and Wanda bought out their stock
in the company and the business was moved to its present
location in Prairieville. Doug and Wanda's oldest son,
Brian, came to work in the family business full time
in 1997 and remained with the company until October
2002. Their youngest son, Greg, began working part time
while still in high school and after graduating from
River Parishes Community College in May 2003, joined
the company full time. Wanda's sister, Judy McCully,
who had moved from Tupelo, MS, joined them in October
2002. Wanda handles the Accounts Receivables/Payables.
Other part time employees work on call as needed during
peak seasonal demands.
Doug Hillensbeck served with the Army
National Guard for 31 years and retired in July 2003
at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He has served the
people of Prairieville as a member of the Ascension
Parish School Board from 1994 until 2003. He gave up
his seat on the Board after being elected in 2003 to
the Ascension Parish Council government. Doug is into
streetrodding and is well known by the 1948 Ford Coupe
that he built and drives.
